The Midwest Crossroads Emmaus Story

Our community stated with the vision of one couple, who after making numerous trips to attend
the Northern Indiana Emmaus Walks at Oakwood in Syracuse, Indiana, entertained the idea of
an Emmaus community closer to home.

For you see, Bob and Sandy Coolman, on a good day were driving at least 2 hours one way
to get to a walk. If you were a sponsor that meant making at least 3 trips or enduring 12 hours of driving for one Emmaus weekend. In addition, there was an hour time difference to contend with.

In the spring of 1999, six couples, who had attended the North Indiana Emmaus Walks, came
together as a steering committee to establish a new Emmaus Community.
There were many meetings; leadership training and educational tools received,
from the Upper Room and our host community, North Indiana, helping to plan and implement
the Midwest Crossroads Emmaus Community, also know as M.C.E.C.

Our mission is to make disciples for Jesus Christ, based on Luke 24:13-35.

Emmaus is open to members of any Christian denomination and is for the development
of Christian leaders who are members of a local church, have a desire to strengthen
their spiritual lives, understand that being a Christian involves responsibility and are
willing to dedicate their everyday lives to God in an ongoing manner.

Our walks take place at Lake Region Christian Assembly (LRCA) in Crown Point.
Walks are normally scheduled on the 3rd and 4th weekends of April and the
2nd and 3rd weekends of October.

We have recently completed Walks $35 and#36. Since October 1999, there have been
over 900 people who have experienced the Walk to Emmaus though our community.

Gatherings are held on the 4th Friday of most months. Our Gathering schedule,
list of reunion Groups, and Board of Directors are included in our website.

We welcome you to join us on our pilgrimage with Christ.
